About.
After Bedside is a free calculator for nurses who are thinking about leaving bedside, and who keep running into the same wall: not the job market, but the money. It turns that fear into numbers. Your monthly burn, your runway, a bridge plan, and the smallest version of a move that still works for your budget.
Who made it
It was built by a physician and a registered nurse. We are independent, based in Los Angeles, and not affiliated with any hospital, staffing agency, school, or coaching business. The tool grew out of a personal spreadsheet, one we kept rebuilding every time the question came up of whether leaving the floor was actually affordable. This is that spreadsheet, cleaned up and made free for anyone to use.
What we believe
- The honest answer to “can I afford to leave bedside?” is a number, not a pep talk. So we give you the number.
- The career-change advice aimed at nurses is crowded with people selling certainty they don't have. We are trying to be the plain, numbers-first alternative to that.
- The path estimates in the tool are clearly labeled as estimates. We would rather under-promise than quote you a salary or a timeline as if it were a guarantee. (See our methodology for where those numbers come from.)
What we don't do
We don't sell coaching, courses, or a paid plan. We don't take placement commissions, and we're not a job board. We don't sell your email or share it with employers, recruiters, schools, or advertisers. The calculator runs in your browser, and your line-item numbers never leave it unless you choose to save your plan by email. The privacy page spells all of that out.
This is a planning tool, not financial advice. Questions, or want your data deleted? Email hello@afterbedside.com. We read everything that comes in.
